Microsoft Monday: Accessibility Tools to Create Screen Reader Friendly Documents

Did you know that Microsoft Office has accessibility tools included that will help you create screen reader friendly documents and presentations? If you regularly create and distribute documents to staff, clients, or the community this session is for you!

In this virtual training session on Zoom, Delia Hubbard – Digital Literacy Educator and certified Microsoft Office Master, will demonstrate how to effectively use the tools within Microsoft Word to create documents that work well with screen reader software.

These features will ensure that those with a visual impairment can easily navigate your document and effectively understand it.

Participants will learn to:

  • Obtain and install the free NVDA Screen Reader software
  • Use basic NVDA commands and techniques for reading PDF files
  • Set document styles in Word to create various heading levels
  • Add alternate text to images and diagrams
  • Mark visual elements on the page as decorative only
  • Set up tables of data for effective screen reading
  • Enter information in document property fields

Participants should have basic foundational knowledge of using Word, including how to open files, create new documents, use save and save as, and navigate the Ribbon command toolbar.

There is a $25 registration fee per person for this training.
